The play is hanging on by a very thin thread at present.

We’d already lost one cast member early on who simply vanished into the ether and now, a month away from opening night, another has fallen by the wayside unable to provide the level of commitment required to make these things work.

Although we are a bunch of amateurs, we are always acutely aware that our audiences pay hard-earned money to see our shows, so we do take a largely professional approach in committing to the rehearsal period to ensure that we put up the best production we possibly can.

We are now finely balanced on the horns of a dilemma and may have to postpone the run, or if we can’t find a suitable replacement, the curtains will be swinging in a lot sooner than expected, which would be a shame. Particularly after tonight, where I felt like we’d actually had a good rehearsal.

Prior to rehearsal, the sun had come out and so I sat in the one habitable corner of my backyard for a little while and soaked up the natural warmth. These bleeding hearts had somehow survived the builder using their home as a storage facility for his trowel and other implements, and looked quite nice resting against his wheelbarrow.
