When The Curtain Comes Down

The new lounge curtains went up about a month ago but, unfortunately, after they had been hanging for only a day or so, we noticed that the lining was showing on one of them. We phoned Rachel straight away - no problem, she would get it sorted though we’d have to wait a bit because her seamstress was away on holiday. Not an issue as far as we were concerned, and she called this morning to take away the offending item to be rectified. Hoped to have it back by Saturday so we might have to rig up a sheet or something for a couple of days.
Very pleased therefore to receive a phone call at lunch time saying that it was an easier fix than anticipated and that we could have the curtain back later in the day. She was as good as her word, and we now have two curtains at the window again, with no lining showing. We are still promised two cushions in matching material and she also measured up for a blind to cover the clear panel next to the front door.
And that was the positive side to the day. We’ve been trying to plan a few days away at the end of June, but there are no train tickets available yet for the day we want to come home, due to Network Rail not confirming what engineering works will be on that weekend. We can’t risk booking tickets down to London until we can guarantee being able to get back, so we either await confirmation of the timetable or abandon plans to go by train and plan for a car based trip instead. All very frustrating, and I could do with it being sorted sooner rather than later. Which probably means opting for the car option and praying that there are no hold ups on the journey home as I’m playing at a gig that night, so must be back in Kendal by the afternoon.
