A view from Jeanneb

Please Mr Postman

This just had to be my blip today. It’s the second time this year we’ve seen something similar to this in the Lakes in March with a pub beer garden cigarette butt repository carrying  the same message.

We went over the ‘Wee Mad Road’ (the quicker but hairy route) to Lochinver this morning to visit the Lochinver Craft fare in the village hall. First we had a coffee in An Cala and were both tempted by a lemon tart very generously decorated with raspberries.

Drove up the road a little to Achmelvic Beach one of several beautiful beaches in Assynt. We spent a day here last year with Grace, John, Eda and Jude. Parked in the usual place in the dunes to start a walk we have done before to the old mill at Alltanabradhan. ‘Amazed from Yorkshire’ was shocked to see that the toilet block that was always well kept had not only been closed but demolished! Instead the Highland council have decided to charge for the car park. That’s happening everywhere so I don’t really mind that but someone had left a rather cryptic note on the machine. We enjoyed the walk and both heard and saw a cuckoo but it was on the wing. Think it was disturbed by a raptor hovering over. We also saw some pretty orchids by the path.
In the extra you can see the former corn mill. The mill stones were reputedly sourced from Suilven but how they got to this remote spot is a mystery, probably by sea. Below the mill, in the collage, is Achmelvic beach. Yes there is someone in the sea and had Grace been with us it would have been her with John and Eda on the paddle board.

We drove on a little past the lovely beach at Clachtoll to another nice beach at Clashnessie - extra. We wanted to do a short walk to the falls which can actually be seen from the road though we’ve never noticed them before. It said park in the lay-by, yes if it’s not full of camper vans - not going to start that rant!
Very impressive and it was as we walked to the path we passed this post box. There was no doubt it was in use you could here them.

On a bit more to Drumbeg as we knew (or hoped there were still) toilets there. Yes they were still there and were open and we’re free with an honesty box for donations. I happily put 50p in. Toilet saga over.

We were spinning time a bit as we had a meal booked at Peets in Lochinver for 5.30. A lovely seafood restaurant appropriately right on the pier. Had one of their own gins which I think is my favourite, I have some at home so resisted getting more.
A super way to round off our week here which is all too quickly over as always.
