Wild Wednesday ...

... at the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

Richard has a lot of PTO to use by the end of June so he took a half day off from work today.   We used his free time to go to the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

And we weren't the only ones ... the zoo was packed with many, many school groups!  Too many if you ask me!  At one point when we were at the bobcat enclosure the crowd closed in behind me and I suddenly felt very uncomfortable.  Not only were the children loud but they all seemed too close for my comfort.  I very quickly made my way out of there ... and immediately felt better.

After leaving the zoo we drove down to the ford that goes over the Jordan Creek ... but it was closed for driving over today for some reason.  So we had to pick another spot to enjoy our lunch.  Unfortunately everywhere we went there were school groups!  But we eventually found a relatively uncrowded place to sit and eat lunch.  The young girls in the bottom right picture were having fun walking in the creek ... brrrrrr!  We saw the beautiful tiger swallowtail whilst we were having our lunch.

The two giraffes pictured are Tatu (upper right) and the newest addition to our zoo Joshua ... upper left.  They are both six years old males and seem to be getting on well together.  Let's hope that continues.  A lot of the animals weren't out in their enclosures today for varied reasons.  The zoo is keeping all the birds in lockdown because of the recent cases of bird flu.  And the penguin exhibit appears to be getting a refresh because of this!

We stopped at a couple of places on the way home but then were in for the remainder of the day.  It was a great day spent in excellent company ... aside from the large crowds at the zoo.  :-)
