Buck Rogers

If you know the track by Feeder, you’ll know why it’s today’s blip title. If you don’t know it, then Google the lyrics and all should become clear.
The expression “clean enough to eat your dinner off” definitely applies to the engine bay of this Jag I spotted at Countryfest yesterday. Obviously intended to be an homage to the racing Jaguar coupes of the 1970s, it was - somewhat unusually - based on a long wheelbase, four door, XJ6 saloon rather than the more conventional short wheelbase, two door coupe. Mind you, there’s probably not many roadworthy coupes left these days, so it might have been the case of only a saloon being available as a basis for the conversion.
Whatever the reason, it was very well done and looked immaculate, especially under the bonnet. Mind you, I shudder to think how much it costs to run at current petrol prices. The XJ6 was never known as a particularly frugal car and adding triple 45DCOE Webers definitely wouldn’t help matters. It probably costs a fiver just giving it the traditional couple of pumps of the throttle before pressing the start button! Sadly, I don’t know what it sounded like as it did not take part in the classic car parade, though I suspect that had more to do with not wanting to drive a car with lowered suspension around an arena that was effectively just a bumpy field.
Play rehearsal this afternoon went ok, but it’s frightening to think we only have two more before the Dress. But as the next one isn’t until Wednesday, we’re heading down to Chester tomorrow for a couple of days to see mother as, if we don’t go then, it could be another three weeks or so before we can get there.
June is going to be a busy month…
