Road Trip - Cariboo

On a rainy day
in June we drove two hundred

My daughter and I left home at 9:30 for Wells in the Cariboo region of the province. It was a less than a stellar day as rain showers continued most of the way.

We drove north on the Yellowhead Highway stopping near McClure for a look into the North Thompson Valley. The river is muddy and running fast. Places along the river were already flooding.

We turned west at Little Fort to take Hwy 24 over to Hwy 97 N. This area is mountainous and dotted with lakes. We made a brief stop at Lac des Roches for a photo, then continued on for lunch in 100 Mile House.

We continued on Hwy 97 making the turn off at Williams Lake. You can see we haven't run out of trees yet in this province in spite of all the forest fires we've had in recent years.

We made a brief stop in Quesnel to gas up and find some flowers for a friend. Just outside of Quesnel we turned east onto Hwy 26 for the climb up to Wells.

On the way to Wells I missed two deer and a black bear. There was no near collision, just missed opportunities for photos. Arriving in Wells, we checked into our room before 5 PM. We had tea in the bar, then joined friends for dinner at their home. There is still some of winter's snow lying about the village and evident on the surrounding mountains.

We're beat and hope to get a good night's sleep.
