Time for a Little Something Devonian

The news from the Scotia Barrens is that the vernal pools are drying up, and the ferns are taking over. The American Fern Society has a cool webpage about ferns, at which I learned that ferns are among the oldest plants on Earth, dating back to the middle Devonian period (383 to 393 million years ago), and possibly as far back as 430 million years. Yowza!

I am happy to report that I enjoyed hanging out among the ferns, as a small animal might. I walked among them. I shot them from above. I crawled among them. I shot them from below. I tried a bunch of different camera settings - I think this one is posterized - because I wanted to find some new ways to look at very old things, which is to say . . . FERNS!

Now, one of the reasons I gave my blip this title is so that I could use THIS as my soundtrack song. Yeah, baby, it's a good one! Sing along! Get up and dance if you want to; I sure will! Here's Devo, with Whip It

When a problem comes along
You must whip it
Before the cream sits out too long
You must whip it
When something's going wrong
You must whip it

Now whip it
Into shape
Shape it up
Get straight
Go forward
Move ahead
Try to detect it
It's not too late
To whip it
Whip it good
