Helmsley...and other villages

We had planned to have breakfast in Pickering...but when we got there, the specific cafe we were going to was closed on Wednesdays (along with lots of other shops) after walking up and down, no other cafes that were open at 9, had croissants! So we bought croissants in co-op and went back to the tent with them. We were undecided about what to do. It had been a 'going out' day. As in further afield, not local, but the weather was so lovely we couldn't get motivated, and sat reading in the sun until coffee time. After we had made coffee we ditched the plan for Beverley (an hour) or York (40 minutes, but we've been before) and chose 2 local market towns. We began with Kirkbymoorside, and then went on to Helmsley. They were both the prettiest small towns, so much character, and lovely stone buildings. We parked in the market square, and went into the adjacent pub where we had jacket potatoes for lunch.

We wandered around, bought a few bits, then headed back to enjoy the sun at the site, reading for a few hours. A picnic tea then more reading. We are both on our first book, both about half way through, so we are at that point where you don't want to stop reading!

At 8, we did eventually stop and took a walk down to Lidl for a few picnic bits as we plan to go to Robin Hoods Bay tomorrow. That plan shouldn't change. It was going to be Friday, but with the forecast to be hot that day, we decided Friday to go to Dalby Forest. A cooler place on a hot day.

Now I am watching The Sewing Bee on my ipad. A group from the next motorhome have a guitar and have gathered a few more around as they sing and play music. I'm enjoying it....not sure Jon is. You all know how sociable he is (not)!!
