a lifetime burning

Hot

It has been  that been the hottest day of the year here, with temperatures exceeding 30C locally, and probably a fair bit more than that in the South East.  This Meadow Brown seemed to quite like it - but it was hotter than I am comfortable with nowadays.

Today was also the day of our neighbour Joan's funeral, who died recently aged 95.  She is survived by her husband who is 2 years older and still compos mentis and driving a car at 97.

Joan was a lovely friendly lady.  At one stage of her life she was a teacher and I bet her students loved her.  A graduate of Birmingham University she seems to have excelled at anything she chose to apply her considerable skills of concentration to, be that music, collecting exotic plants, embroidery, historic button collection or quilting.  Joan loved to read poetry and for most of her life learned a new poem by heart each week.

The service itself was very nicely done, with an excellent Eulogy from one of her 3 sons and poetry readings from some of her 9 grandchildren.  The church itself was nice and cool, which was a bit of a bonus today.
