Clachan An Trusel

This massive gneiss monolith stands about 5.8m high and is thought to be the tallest in Scotland. According to legends it marks either the site of a battle between the Morrisons of Ness and the MacAulays of Uig or the grave of a Norse princess.

However, according to evidence from recent excavations the stone formed part of a stone circle - other stones from the circle have been incorporated in nearby field dykes or used as lintels.

An alternative monument commemorating the battle is shown in the extra and is situated on the machar overlooking Loch Barvas.
