Foulney

A trip to Foulney Island today.

Setting off from where we had parked we chatted briefly to a chap who was getting into his “ gear”. He told us that his boss had asked what he was doing for the weekend. He told him he was dressing up in rubber and meeting some men in a car park. Which could not have been more accurate.

We had to abandon our excursion. Just as we were getting onto the reserve proper a volunteer approached and asked if we were staying for the high tide. Once that arrived (which was imminent) the causeway would be inundated by the sea and we would be stranded for four hours. We beat a hasty retreat. I hadn’t thought to check tide times, the clue is in the word “Island”.

Extra. Just before we turned around. Anglers we’re heading for the island, four hours marooned there would be bliss for them I guess. The sea kale is colouring everything yellow at the moment. Further on a thousand eider ducks had left the sea and could be seen sitting high tide out on the shingle at the end of the island.
