Winter solstice

I did a little work this morning, while hubby did the shopping.  In the afternoon I went to my Pilates class and afterwards we met a friend for coffee and a chat.  It’s always an interesting conversation when we meet with this friend.

This evening we attended a Matariki Pot Luck Dinner at the home of one of our Tuesday morning walking group friends. It was a most enjoyable evening, with lots of delicious dishes to try and plenty of chat.  When we left to come home the temperature had dropped to about 6degC - quite a shock, but then it is the shortest day.

As we walked home from the coffee shop this afternoon we walked by a palm tree that intrigues us greatly.  It’s starting to force a crack in the wall and we’re interested to see how long it takes before the roots break through completely and both wall and tree come tumbling down.  And I couldn’t resist tonight’s sunset.

There are 5,630 new community cases today, and the seven-day rolling average is 4,878 compared to 5,983 last Tuesday. The number of people in hospital is 362, including 4 in ICU. Another 17 deaths have been reported, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,432 and the seven-day rolling average to 12.
