Now, as I see it......

A Sunday sort of day

We thought we'd give the beach a miss today and instead walked down into the harbour area this morning for a wander round and a frappe (Greek iced coffee) in one of the harbour-front cafes.  Once it started to get busy with the day boats from Rhodes we bought some spanakopitas to take back to our accommodation for lunch and then had a lazy afternoon sitting in our little outdoor area overlooking the Pedi valley and reading.  I took a few shots around town including this one from the bus stop by the harbour.

I've added an extra of one of the ruins along the Kali Strata; the main 'street' that connects Yialos, the harbour area, with Chorio, the old town.  It's actually a flight of around 500 steps where most of the more wealthy people had their houses until the population dwindled to about a tenth of the people living here in 19th century.  Some years ago I'd have thought nothing of walking back up it at any time of the day but now we tend only to walk down and then get the bus back.  When we first came here 25 years ago there were many ruins like this but gradually most of them have been renovated.  We've even seen some that were renovated a while ago starting to fall into ruin again!  Although this looks to be beyond redemption, we've seen similar ones converted back into lovely properties.
