Ovipositing Hoverfly

As often as not, hoverflies are, um, hovering... fast, unpredictable but likely to be floating in the middle of the picture. This time it's busy on the daisy bud, laying eggs into the soon-to-be flower. I presume, I don't know, this is timed so that the larvae emerge just as the flower provides the necessary food.

The more you look the more you see, and mini beasts are hiding in plain sight beneath. A garden shot on an otherwise slow day under heavy skies. It hasn't rained but the air is full and moist. Almost like the sky is waiting for the latest excuse from Johnson before it cries out in frustration.
