Upgrade

It is the word that strikes fear into the heart of every computer user who currently has a perfectly functioning machine.

Like a parent protecting a vulnerable child, upon hearing the word “upgrade” the user will invariably use their body to shield their machine, their eyes wet with the tears of panic as their shaking voice quietly pleads “no, not this one”.

No self-respecting IT department ever extolled the virtues of the old adage that “if ‘ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

A direct result of which meant that the previous evening’s upgrade had rendered our work-issued laptops and phones incapable of sending or receiving email for most of the morning. Still feeling lousy anyway and unable to work, I took a brief stroll to the river at lunch to walk my parent’s dog, which is where I snapped this tranquil river scene totally unrepresentative of my mood at that moment.
