Hoverfly On Flower

I was out in the garden around 8 a.m. hoping to keep cool whilst looking for a blip.

I found this hoverfly on a (unknown) yellow flower (it is a weed, as it it not anything we have planted). As I watched I could see it apparently ‘licking’ the flower - the large protuberance from under the head appeared to be a ‘tongue’. Fascinating to watch, but obviously not showing up in a still image! As ever it looks much better in LARGE :-)

We nipped to Tadcaster before 9 to get a few ‘salad’ supplies for tea tonight as I didn’t fancy cooking again today!!

Temperature has reached 37.3 by 2 p.m..

At least inside is nice and cool….
