Some out, some in

An average day today, mostly dry. Spent most of the day out in the garden, both of us weeding. There are some areas of grass on the slope which have grown more thickly in the last couple of years, so they'll need to go before I can do more planting there.

It's difficult not to shed soil down the slope when pulling weeds out, so it's a case of pulling the weeds between the fingers to leave as much soil behind as possible.

I was determined to plant something today, so picked a couple of lovely ferns - Coniogramme japonica, an evergreen fern native to the Far East which is reasonably hardy. I'm gradually replacing native ferns with exotics and trying to find homes elsewhere for all the natives - we're not short of them!

The Lorn Show is on tomorrow, so we're hoping that the forecast rain is as light as promised!
