Calne (Monday 8th August 2022)

It has been a poor year for me for cygnets. Fewer of my haunts have had swans that successfully bred, or have managed to keep their brood safe from predators, and those that have, such as at the Waterfront Gardens in Marlborough, haven't always had any to show on my visits.

It has been some years since there were any on the Marden in Calne town centre, though I know there have been sightings further up river, seen from back gardens but not publically accessible.

The nearest are probably this family behind the Mill House in Quemerford. There is a path that runs alongside the river opposite the mill building but it is so thick with vegetation that although I could peek at the swans from it, photography was only possible when I reached the road bridge on the A4 heading towards Marlborough. By then they were some distance away and after this first shot they dispersed into the undergrowth, out of sight. I was of course very pleased to have caught this glimpse into their world.

Supremes - Love Is Here And Now You're Gone (2003 Remix) (recorded between 12 August 1966 and 3 November 1966, Los Angeles CA and Detroit MI)
R.I.P. Lamont Dozier (16 June 1941, Detroit MI - 8.8.2022, Arizona)
Known as Mr Motown there are so many hits written by Lamont Dozier as part of the Holland-Dozier-Holland team for artists such as the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, the Miracles and the Four Tops it was almost impossible to choose just one. Many others have already featured in this spot, but as they were particularly known for their work with the Supremes I have chosen this number one hit. It is the only Supremes single with vocals combined from two takes: most of it comes from Version Three but the spoken section was taken from Version Two. The strings are arranged by Gene Page and the backing vocals are by the Andantes.
