I got chills...

A couple of weeks ago, LadyV had asked if I wanted to go to an outdoor cinema showing of Grease.

There was a promise of a deckchair, popcorn, the venue being at the Windermere Jetty Museum (so lakeside) and crucially, pizza onsite. From a pure box-ticking point of view, this was a compelling offer and so I promptly accepted.

Well, the popcorn was terrible, the pizzas small and over priced, but the deckchair was comfortable and the surroundings were fantastic. It’s a relatively new museum, so it was nice to get inside and take a look (pictured). It is also located at a lovely spot on Windermere, so the view over the lake was glorious and there were lots of people taking the obligatory down-the-pier shot. LadyV was particularly excited as she’d seen someone she follows on Instagram (an influencer or something?) and went over to shyly request a selfie (modern day equivalent of an autograph?). No, I have no idea who she was or what she does.

There was also the small matter of the film, which was just as enjoyable as ever and particularly poignant given the recent passing of Olivia Newton-John. It’s easy to see how Grease made a true star of John Travolta (he had already done some TV work at this point in his career) as he is luminescent throughout, those piercing blue eyes and dazzling Hollywood smile lighting up the screen.

His face when he sees Sandy’s transformation (“tell me about it…stud”) is for me, an all-time classic cinematic moment.

It was a fantastic experience seeing a film next to the lake like that, but in the likely event that we go again, I’ll be sure to wrap up a little warmer next time because “I got chillllllllllls……”
