The Red Sea

I was sorting out my images for my blip this afternoon when the sad news about Queen Elizabeth II came through. We both feel very shocked and upset. While we were watching the TV news coverage a man appeared on a ladder at our window and took down the Union Jack which was flapping just outside. They have taken all the flags down, also all the bunting which was decorating the street. Then we heard a bell ringing and the town crier appeared just across the road from us and made an official announcement. It all feels very strange and unsettling.

For the record though, back to the blip.

The promised rain finally arrived this afternoon, but we managed to drive over to Sidmouth for a pootle in the dry in the morning. I was struck by how red the sea was near the beach. It was very rough and windy, with quite a few surfers about, as in the first extra. We watched a cormorant battle with the wind too (second extra). He quickly gave up and returned to the shore.

It's actually stopped raining now. It's been a much better week weatherwise than we expected. Thundery showers are predicted again for tomorrow, our last day here, but hopefully the forecast will continue to be wrong.
