The Sixth Hole

We had a very early start this morning, and headed off to Ardrossan to catch the ferry to Arran.  Our journey was very smooth all the way until we were on the last stretch on the other side of Glasgow and we had hold up after hold up.  We were late for our check in time, but we weren’t last.  That meant we didn’t have too long to wait until we could board.  Once on board we met up with friends and grabbed some breakfast.  The thought of  breakfast was what kept BB going.

It was really breezy and chilly on deck and I was wondering whether I had brought enough clothes.  Once on the island we stopped off briefly at our hotel, then headed on to Lochranza  where we were meeting up with more friends – who had been on the island a few days – for lunch, before almost everyone went to a whisky tasting at the Distillery.  We had a lovely catch up over lunch and then BB and I headed off for a walk.  We walked to Fairy Dell and back.  It was a lovely afternoon, but there was a definite chill in the air and it was quite breezy, but not tool chilly as long as you kept movning.  We spotted deer chilling out on the golf course, dragon flies and a couple of red squirrels.

We met up with everyone back at the distillery, where they were just finishing their tasting and were about to hit the shop.  We were travelling by bus, which was running rather late, and took the scenic route back to Brodick, stopping off for a quick drink en route as we had to change buses.  Later there were more drinks and dinner and lots of chat.

Deer are a natural hazard on Lochranza golf course.  The extra is Hutton's Unconformity.  We've never been sure which rocks were the unconformity, so it's good they have put a sign up!
