Harbour gate

During the last couple of years, the city wall around Kalmar old city has been renovated. This particular gate was build in 1697 and was part of the defence of the city. The gate was the main entrance from the old harbour. 
For decades, repairs has been done using modern cement, which has made the damage even worse as cement kept normal moist trapped inside the wall and made it crack during frost. The renovation has been done in close cooperation with Kalmar museum and the knowledge from companies and craftsmen using old building-techniques.Most of the wall has now been renovated, it looks as if they build the wall from scratch. The wall is one of the longest remaining in Sweden and attracts lots of tourists.
