A Day In The Life

Juvenile Double Crested Cormorant • We saw two cormorants this morning, one adult perched on a green buoy, and this juvenile posed on a colorful dock at the Boat Landing. The river was otherwise quiet. Lots of ring-billed gulls were on the grass sunning themselves except for one, a curious juvenile with an orange plastic bottle cap. After pecking at it repeatedly he pranced around the others proudly displaying it in his beak. The adults seemed to know it wasn’t edible, and were definitely not impressed. I decided to walk over and take it away, much to his chagrin, but I made up for it by spreading a few seeds and crackers around :) That definitely got the adults’ attention • Two winter birds were spotted in the yard this afternoon: two juncos and a pair of carolina wrens!! Yippee, it’s exciting to see them again :) • After another frost tonight we have several “warmer” days ahead to look forward to • Enjoy your evenings, blip friends!
