An even more dreich day

I was up to date responding to your lovely comments and checking in on blippers, but I’m behind again after a hectic week and weekend.

We were up at 4:45am after our late night last night, as we had volunteered, through Auckland Joggers, to man a water stop for the Auckland Marathon that took place today, and we had to be in position to help set up by 5:30am.  The rain was horrendous and it was a nightmare drive. Then we stood in the pouring rain for five hours handing out cups of electrolyte drinks to the runners and walkers at they came through.  Ours was the first water stop for the thousands of runners and walkers who had entered the various races:
Wheelchair Marathon
Marathon
Half Marathon
11km Walk
Kids Marathon
5km

It certainly kept us on our toes. There was the odd grumpy person, but mostly they were polite and very appreciative of our contribution to the day.

By the time we’d finished we were cold, wet through and looking like drowned rats. Our wet weather gear wasn’t quite as waterproof as we thought, unfortunately.  Getting home again was a bit of a mission because of the event traffic, but we eventually made it and it was so good to get our wet gear off.  We had scrambled eggs, baked beans, tomatoes, toast and coffee for breakfast, which was actually lunch, then hot showers.  So comforting.

Then the weather cleared up, so we went out to pick up the open home signs and called in for a quick drink with Mum.  We’ve had an apple, cheese, wine and a piece of chocolate for supper and it’s going to be an early night.  We’re exhausted after two late nights and a very early morning.

Today’s blip - raindrops on the windows and a rather nice sunset.  It was too wet and we were too busy to take photos during the marathon.
