If you can't beat them...

Winter Droving.

Every year, well for the last decade or so (Covid permitting) Penrith has had a "Winter DrovingFestival".  Penrith in the days when droving took place must have been a busy place, we even have a road called Drover's Lane.

The culmination of the festival is a night time procession round the town.  There are a lot of these huge "lanterns" in the shape of domestic animals and some wild ones.  Those I remember were this bull's head, a bull, horse, pig, deer, geese, and fox.  The processing included a number of bands ranging from drums through brass to a (if I remember correctly) a bangladeshi band), also lots of people carried torches and wore animal masks.
