History

Woke to rain as expected but rather than just hiding away we decided to go and explore Hexham. We had trouble parking but eventually got sorted and battled through pouring rain to the Abbey. We had a great visit….delicious coffee and scones to start with then some excellent and really informative hands on exhibitions that taught us a lot about the history of the place…going back 1300 years which was mind boggling.
We did some brass rubbing and then headed into the church itself to look around and find the various things we’d learned about…the drips of lead on the steps from when the roof of the nave was burned down, the face of the daughter of the man responsible for one phase of the renovation, and V went into the crypt which was one of the oldest parts, built from reused Roman stonework. We loved the history of the place and the care that’s been taken of it.
We then had a browse around some interesting shops in the town…by then the rain had cleared.
Drove home and settled to some scrabble…V won both games, one by only one point! Then we had our trip to the (mini) spa and both had really excellent back neck and shoulder massages…heaven!
Home for aubergine and green bean curry, then some nonsense Tv and chat before an early night. Another good day!
