In memory

Up before 10 to finish the cleaning before we had to leave. PY bought flowers - and came back with Costa coffees for us - before we ironed a shirt and set off.  It’s a very warm today but I felt like long trousers were more appropriate for an ashes scattering: we were joining some of Kelly’s family to scatter he ashes now they have been able to travel from Malaysia.

We made our way to, somewhere near, New Malden where we boarded a 265 bus (a route I’d never ridden before) to Roehampton Asda. After a quick stop for a snack and to escape the blazing heat - and to avoid the McDonalds cafe - we walked to the cemetery.  It’s a well appointed cemetery and seems very large.

The ashes scattering was lovely and very respectful. I’d never seen ashes scattered before and, initially, thought it a bit odd but everybody agreed with a lovely spot, in the sun, in the lilies.

Afterwards we went to The Green Man pub at Putney Heath. Most of us took a bus with Godfrey riding his electric bike to keep up.  The family took a car. Luckily, there was a big table free and we spent a couple of hours reminiscing. Kelly’s sister had brought all Kelly’s photo albums but everything we saw was from pre 2016 which is when I met her. Nonetheless, a nice coupe of hours plus a plan for an Ambassadors get together in September.

RIP Kelly.
