Friday: Caye Caulker

I’ve taken the day off for us to enjoy a long weekend in/on Caye Caulker.  We drove up to Belize City this morning and have abandoned the car there. It was a 45 minute water taxi ride and now here we are in Caye Caulker, one of the quieter islands.

We have a lovely Airbnb and everything is within walking distance.   Things are slowly opening up as Belize is about to head into tourist season.  It doesn’t take long to walk the island - there’s a south and north side, separated by a stretch of water called ‘The Split’.  It was all one island until Hurricane Hattie split the island in two.  It’s also Hurricane Hattie that is responsible for Belmopan being the capital, not Belize City.

Anyway, I digress.  We finally tried a Michelada tonight - in essence a beer with lime juice, tomato juice, chilies and spices. Basically a Bloody Mary with beer instead of vodka.  And we had excellent Italian meal - one of the best meals we’ve had here.
