A busy day...I will explain

So for those who do not know, we (Manda, mum and I) this week became the proud owners of 4 tatty looking garages, situated just behind mum's own garage at the bottom of her garden. For various reasons we decided that, when we stumbled upon the information that they were to be put up for sale, together with the land immediately in front of them, we needed to have a very quick and serious discussion about it. This was early summer. We came to the decision that it was certainly something dad would have grabbed, given the opportunity and with that in mind went ahead and approached the vendor. Thanks to Manda, who did all the negotiations and business side, she picked up the keys a week ago. This weekend was the earliest I could get down to make a contribution. Manda had already done some weeding, and I continued with that yesterday. When Jon arrived yesterday he assessed the frames and determined that all 4 needed the bottom foot replaced. We bought wood, and he cut and prepared it last night. Today his job was replacing the rotten parts while Manda and I rubbed down the frames and the metal doors. It took f o r e v e r. By 2pm we had rubbed down and painted most of the frames. Then we started on the garage doors, eventually completing the first coat of paint on 2 of the 4 doors before it was too dark to see. Throughout the day mum kept us supplied with coffee, tea, biscuits and lunch, plus lots of positive encouragement.

The result we are ALL super pleased with and so proud of ourselves today!! Of course there is more to do, and I am not sure if the weather is going to be kind tomorrow. If it is, I will doing a second coat of white on the frames. I guess watch this space.

Manda headed home to her family who have almost forgotten what she looks like. Mum and I went up the town to the Christmas Market and tail end of the parade. Loads of people having fun up there. We went to Sainsbury's then home to cook a curry ready meal.

Looks like another late night.....but pretty sure I'm going to sleep well!
