An ordinary life....

Homeward bound...

Once again D was at the hospital early in order to speak to the doctor when he was doing his rounds.  It was agreed that Alan would be discharged when he'd been free of the oxygen for 24 hours and was maintaining his levels.  They planned to remove the oxygen this afternoon.

D came home for lunch and just as we were about to head back to the hospital D received a call from a nurse on the ward to day they'd removed the oxygen and as Alan had maintained his levels for two hours, he could come home this afternoon!  Although we are desperate to get him home, this news was slightly alarming given we've been told for almost two weeks that he'd have to maintain his oxygen levels for 24 hours.  Exactly what was agreed with the doctor this morning.  D explained we were on our way back to the ward and would discuss it then.

When we got there Alan was asleep but woke up soon after.  I saw a difference in him even from yesterday.  Lots of smiles and the return of the charm :-)

Andrew the physio arrived.  He is really happy with Alan's progress.  The charge nurse came and spoke to us to and apologised for alarming us re. Alan's discharge.  She confirmed he would stay in for 24 hours now his oxygen has been removed and all being well, will be discharged tomorrow morning!  Woo hoo!  :-)

Told Alan the good news and he is also happy.  And it just so happens that it will be his support worker Christine who's on duty tomorrow afternoon.  He adores all his team but he has a particular bond with Christine, so that made him extra happy.

We headed home when he was about to have a physio session with Andrew followed by his dinner.

David took a photo of Alan's bed all ready for him coming home, and sent it to Vickie at the hospital to let Alan see it.  He was very excited by that :-)

And the news from the hospital this evening is his oxygen levels are holding steady so it's all looking good for tomorrow.

Can't believe he was rushed in only two weeks ago tonight.  It seems like forever!

Thank you again for all your wonderful messages of support and concern.  They mean more than you'll ever know xx
