Life in Sunny Dubai

Northern Emirates

(29/1/23)

Yay, it is nearly the weekend! G has a much shorter day on a Friday, so when she messaged to say she was on her way home and that we should go out for a drive, Eileen and I were showered and ready to go!

My right knee needs a rest, so G drove us. She, er, still can't recognise the E311 when she is on it, so we inadvertently ended up taking Emirates Road (E611) to the North. All things happen for a reason, so they say. It turned out to be a good mistake, as I don't recall driving to RAK on the E611. The scenery is so different, and at one point (far up North) - you get from the 611 to the 311 to the E11 within ten minutes!

We ended up at the RAK Hotel, a place I remember driving past when I was a kid (in the 70s), but we never went in. Today was my second time to visit. We were ready for a coffee and cake. The services of a very smart and switched-on waiter enhanced the whole exprience!

We started to head back South to find a picnic spot to eat our packed lunch. We chose Marjan Island as we've never been on it. It is RAK's answer to the Palm Jumeirah (i.e. hotels built on reclaimed land). The day was cool and breezy. It was lovely to sit in the sun.

Back in the car to start the drive home. We couldn't resist a detour to show Eileen Barracuda. I wanted to go for happy hour drinks at Skafos followed by Ladies Night at the Sol Sky Bar, but stopping at Al Zorah Resort in Ajman for a cup of tea meant we missed it. My blip is of Eileen's jasmin tea.

We drove past the Hyatt Regency & Galleria and QE2 on the way home. We ordered a takeaway from our local Lebanese. It turned out to be a bit of a disaster, as in, we had to wait nearly an hour when we were all so hungry. :(
