Living my dream

Eutrophication

The dam at S&N’s property is fed by a short creek which runs through a dairy farm before arriving at their boundary. The water is full of fertilisers (despite there supposedly being no run-off) and the dam is therefore eutrophic all year round, and particularly so in warm conditions like now.

Eutrophication is characterised by effusive growth of water vegetation, often making the water green. This growth uses up most of the available oxygen and reduces light, both of which can be fatal for fish and invertebrates. Not a good thing.

A nonstop day. Gardening at K’s all morning, then into the garden here line-trimming, hand watering newly-planted trees, and splitting firewood.

It’s been incredibly humid and warm. I ended the afternoon with sweat dripping into my eyes and rolling down my face, and with sodden clothes. The shower to end the working day was fantastic.

I’m pooped this evening and looking forward to a book and the sofa.

Bean supervised.
