I went out on my walk today specifically to watch birds, with my binoculars but not with Jess. "Birdwalking" is different from my usual walking - it's a lot slower, for one thing - walk, stop, look, listen, repeat. It also doesn't have a particular destination, being more of a wander than a walk. It's not really exercise for the legs as much as training the eyes and ears to notice what's around you.

I did see quite a few birds, including a magpie (rare in this part of the world, and never seen yet in our garden, but getting closer). I also looked at a lot of lichen. I like lichen - it's a mixture of fungi and algae and often some cyanobacteria too. I'm not an expert, but I think this one is called "map lichen" for obvious reasons.
