THE BIGG MARKET

I headed for Newcastle this afternoon - I needed to do a bank transfer to pay The Cat Ladies for looking after Tino and Lily when I go to London.  Theres no bank in my village now so it meant a trip into town.

Got my banking business out of the way first and then I did some food shopping in Marks and Spencers.

Then I was on the hunt for a Mono Monday blip.  The theme today is smooth/rough or uneven.  I decided to go to the Bigg Market/Cloth Market area to take a shot of the cobbles there.  Thanks to Pinkhairedlady for hosting

A bit of info about this part of town.........Its quiet in the daytime but in the evenings - especially at weekends  - it gets very busy.  Its especially popular with hen and stag parties. There are plenty of bars and pubs in this small area and also numerous Indian and Italian restaurants.

The Beehive pub which you can see on the left of the photo was built in 1902 and is a Grade II listed building. It has a traditional long bar and ground floor exterior is faced with green and yellow glazed tiles. An incredible stag and hen party paradise is hidden above the pub offering luxurious accommodation to groups looking for a weekend of fun. The complex called Honeypot House Apartments features  unique themed apartments that sleep up to 50 people.  Visitors can stay in the 'Mad Hatter’s Tea Room' and 'Through the Looking Glass' apartments or the 'Toon Saloon' which even has its own bar and for Geordie luxury there’s 'The Loft Penthoose' which sleeps up to 12 people in stylish surroundings.

The weather today was OK for February.  It was dry and not too cold.
