Whispering Wings

Standing cooking I glanced out and saw the starling murmuration coming over our garden then weaving it's way over the fields. It snaked over the tree tops in a line that stretched at least half a mile then fragmented, balled up and glided again over the sky.

At one point they decided to roost in the trees opposite which looked like they were in leaf at one point, then took off again into a swirling mass. The whispering wings of thousands of starlings in the dusk was awesome and although they didn't stop the night in these trees it was amazing to watch.

I wasn't the only one watching the murmuration as a kestrel sat eyeing them up from high up in the poplar tree and when once spotted they decided better of going there. In the field at a distance I saw my fox jumping and pouncing over mouse/vole holes but it was too dark for there to be any decent shot.
