Stay home!

It was not a good day for going out...heavy rain, strong winds and cold. The forecast was for more rain than we would normally get in a month and if the temp were to drop a couple of degrees, everything would be coated in ice...Who in their right mind would venture out into that, rather than stay cosily ensconced by the fire? Usually not me..but...

I was hosting book club for dinner and needed some asparagus, so out I went to Metro, one of our local grocery stores. Yuk! The weather was horrid.. but still warm enough to be just rain; so it looked good for our friend who lives a 30-minute drive away being able to attend book club after all. Freezing rain would have killed that!

The book club evening started off on a shaky foot as had I the arrival time wrong, and was quite surprised when folks arrived "early"! Confusion about starting times is happening to me more often these days..I was also late for watercolour class for the same reason on the weekend..hmmm.

With dinner still in the oven, and everyone here, it meant that we had more time than I had planned to sit and chat before dinner..which then gave my neighbour a chance to entertain us with tales of her memory woes, specifically about losing her credit card one day this week and then a couple of days later, leaving her purse in a public washroom at the mall! OMG...

Despite being late, dinner went well, what with the asparagus and all, but we had a bit of a fiasco for the book part afterward...We are women of a certain age..and occasionally have little memory slips..as evidenced by the evening so far...but there was more to come...

One member moved away to the east coast and we include her by setting up a zoom meeting; we always let her start first as zoom time is tight and we can always continue our discussion later after she has had her input...which this time was lengthy and in great detail...with details that were puzzling..and references to characters unrecognizable to us.  We finally clued in that she had read the wrong book! She had read the book for March instead...Geez...What a night. As two of us - not me - had read ahead and felt OK discussing next month's  book, we  canceled our planned discussion and moved it to March instead...What a fiasco...Now, how many of us will remember enough to actually discuss the February book  a month from now? Tonight's evidence of our mental acuity does not bode well for that...

When it came time at the end to recommend books for future selection... we all agreed that the most appropriate choice would be the one Sandy suggested... Living with Mild Cognitive Impairment!
