Burnham Overy Staithe

Today was grey skies but without a breath of wind, so it felt much warmer. We walked from Burnham Overy Staithe to the start of Holkham beach. It's a favourite walk because as you walk along the sea defences from Burnham Overy Staithe, there is a canal running alongside which attracts many birds and you are guaranteed of always seeing some interesting birdlife. Today there were large flocks of pink footed geese, greylag geese, we also saw many wigeons, a marsh harrier, egrets and numerous small waders. It's a good walk out to the beach, about an hour each way - in extras a view as we got to the beach.

On our walk we were also 'entertained' watching two guys who had taken their sailing boat out but then got caught with no wind and the outgoing tide and the water getting too shallow. They paddled their way back up the creek and then jumped out and pushed the boat all the way back into the harbour. We assumed their outboard motor had failed as they were not using it.

Once back home we packed up, tidied up and then went to a local pub for lunch. It was a quick lunch and soon we were on our way back home to Surrey, but going via Cambridge as we had arranged to see Adam.

Adam had asked me for a photo of mine to be printed which I had organised during the week, and had framed it too, so I wanted to drop it off. He was working at the lab so we arranged to meet there. His lab is part of the medical research facility at Addenbrooke's Hospital, and it was a bit tricky finding the right building as it is a very large hospital with all the university buildings attached to it. It is one of the best hospitals in the country and of course being a teaching hospital is linked to the university. Adam came out to the car and we quickly drove him home as he wanted to put up the framed picture. We then took him back to the lab as he had a few more hours of work that he wanted to finish and we left. We had a slow journey home as part of the M11 was closed and we had a long detour.

Now we are back home and we have unpacked and the laundry is on. It's late so no time to look at journals tonight.
