For the Good Things in Life

We popped down to the Broadway this afternoon to drop some clothes off at the charity shop, and called in at the Broadway Deli & Grocery on our way home. The shop is an absolute Aladdin’s cave for foodies (and lovers of a good cup of coffee) and I had a wander round the aisles and marvelled at the variety and quality of everything on display. Not only that, but works of art by local artists are also given wall space, which is such a lovely touch.

Sadly, we aren’t able to indulge in most of the delights in there, other than the artisan bread, owing to Smithers’ health issues, but nevertheless we are always welcomed with a warm smile and a chat by Jan, the congenial owner. He’s a well-travelled and very interesting person to talk to; he speaks several languages and is passionate about food and hospitality. Today the conversation centred around the Greek language (Jan is Dutch, and his wife is Greek) so my passion – anything to do with words – was well and truly satisfied!

I confess that the centre photo in the collage is pinched from Jan’s Facebook page, but the surrounding photos were taken with my phone.
