Grave

Jez and family left this morning so we took a drive into town with the idea that we would get a coffee at ‘the club’ but that turned out to be closed.  Instead we wanted into Shrewsbury and stopped for a coffee at The Loopy Shrew which is in the building the Sidoli’s ice cream parlour used to be. Dad reminded me that I had my 14th birthday there at a point when we were living in temporary accommodation on St John’s Hill while waiting to complete on the house. That was a long time ago. After coffee we took a walk back to the car by looping up Claremont Hill, into the Quarry and then back along Smithfield Road opposite the Theatre we were at last night.  On the way we took PY to see Ebenezer Scrooge’s grave which is in the St Chad’s churchyard. It was placed there for a scene in the  1984 film version of A Christmas Carol which was shot in Shrewsbury. And it’s never been taken away. It does appear to be made of stone but now has a crack in it that, I don’t think, used to be there.  It was very timely as we caught the end of the film last week when it was on television.
