That kind of day...

We started the day with some scrambled eggs with onions and mushrooms. The eggs were done EKG style, that is they were cooked without scrambling and only scrambled when the whites were done. D was later going with the washing to ZD's since our faithful Bublinkova Pracka has gone to be fixed. It's a remarkable washing machine which we have had for nearly 18 years, we have never cleaned it or treated it with the slightest respect and it has been washing our clothes almost all that time. The Czechs certainly knew how to make washing machines, no wonder these are out of production. We took it to be fixed in Augustow the other day and the repair man almost shed a sentimental tear to see one. He promised to see what he could do and at the same time returned the microwave that we took to him about 4 years ago and had forgotten to collect.

D came back with the wet washing, staggering under the weight of the basketful like an old washerwoman. I had the fire lit already so we could dry it. Then we liquidised the remains of yesterday's asparagus stalks with some onions and maybe a potato which made remarkably good and extremely economical asparagus soup, all the better for straining out the stringy bits. After, we enjoyed a cup of coffee and an ice cream in front of the fire before D reluctantly went to Sejny to check that she didn't have borreliosis, having been scared by Z and R. I theorised that it could be a mosquito bite but it's difficult to be certain.

The dogs were not keen to venture out much today and I have to admit I have been much the same. They were however in full voice when they heard D return about an hour or so later with a ceramic frying pan, a selection of scarves and some chicken breasts. I may have been right but it is still a suspected mosquito bite which she is to observe closely for a few days.
