A Blackbird Day

Another ‘mostly stay at home day’ - apart from an hour or so when I was out for a walk. I did spot a heron in the River Wharfe at Boston Spa - but with only a 24-105 lens on the camera it barely registered in the frame.

We have been watching a family of blackbirds in the garden for a while now - there have been two juveniles with mum and dad. Sadly in the last couple of days there has only been one juvenile and today only the dad and the one youngster have been here…so I rolled out the TZ90, only for its zoom capability (these are at a full frame equivalent of 720mm), the photos are still rubbish. Main shot is uncropped - the extra just a little.

Anyway, the main shot is of the dad - quite distinctive with his white shoulder patch and the extra is of the youngster which is beginning to feed itself - feasting on mealworms that I scattered on the drain cover in the grass!!
