Race Day!

The big day arrived, bright and sunny. Another early start for the coach transfer to Monaco. Parked outside the football stadium today so a bit of a longer walk. It was busy yesterday but even more so today - we'd been told that it was a sell out for the first time in a few years.

Made our way to our vantage point via the Automobile Club shop where Jamie bought some presents (he'd already bought a shirt yesterday) Of course the main feature of Monaco is the harbour and it was looking absolutely spectacular in the sunshine.

As yesterday the hospitality was simply first class. I particularly liked the self-filling champagne glasses. Wish I could get some of those at home! The atmosphere continued to build with the Porsche and Renault series races and the grandstands began to fill up.

Then it was time for the main event. Here is a video of the first corner. The noise was unreal - you can actually feel it in your body. Again, won't bore you with the details but it was probably the most interesting Monaco GP for a while. 2 major incidents - both in my full view - and, unusually, a restart after the race was stopped due to a dramatic incident. Incredibly neither driver had more than a few bruises.

Then it was time to head back to the coach. It took us 3 minutes to walk down the stairs from the apartment - the lift was fully occupied with the companies removing their hospitality gear. Then we had to tackle the Rue Grimaldi which was absolutely heaving with people heading to the station or hoping to get a chance to walk on the track. We'd have loved to do that but time was against us.

So it was back to the hotel, tired but exhilarated by the events of the day. Here is the Flickr group of photos for today.
