Wickets and Wabbits

Some days us blippers may struggle for a photo or maybe even the words to accompany that photo, but every now and then we’ll have a moment in our busy lives to provide that spark of inspiration and we’ll know exactly what we want to say and how to say it.

Sometimes that moment can be helped along by a pint of ice cold Coors enjoyed in the sunshine whilst “watching” the wee ones play cricket on a Friday night.

It was also an opportunity to have a mini-celebration with my parents who are now finally, definitely, absolutely confirmed residents of Kendal.

We’d all had a lovely evening, so it was a shame to discover a wounded rabbit lying adjacent to the cricket pitch - presumably having been clipped by a car. We couldn’t leave it there, so I scooped it up in The Youngest’s cricket hat and we set off to take it home, but the poor thing was crying in pain and it soon became apparent that it was on its way out. We found a nice place in the shade to leave it and watched over it briefly, but then its breathing gradually slowed and eventually stopped.

Following on from the recent loss of their cat after being hit by a car, this was a little too much for the wee ones and the tears came on, so we hugged it out and talked it through. I told them how lucky that rabbit was to have us spot it, so at least it wasn’t alone in its final moments and was able to slip away peacefully.

They seemed to find a little comfort in that at least.

Slightly difficult end to an otherwise lovely evening.

Happy weekend all!
