Making hay…

..while the summer sun shines.

It has really been summer today. Very warm with a pleasant warm breeze.

We got out quite early this morning for a walk up the Goit which was lovely and shaded. A few people at the waterfall but not too busy. The beck is now well overhung with trees in full leaf so there is less likelihood of spotting dippers in the water.
Most of the spring flowers are over too.

We climbed up to Hallas Bridge and then took the path that skirts the top of the woods at the edge of these fields. No cattle or horses today but two fields had been cut ready for hay making. A smell that instantly takes me back to childhood on a farm just across the Goit Stock valley from here.

Popped into the garden centre (now Bingley G C)  for a coffee and made one or two garden purchases which of course we then had to carry home.

A quick lunch and then we walked to the other garden centre (Woodbank) passing a cricket match going on on the village cricket field.  There was a succulents and cacti show going on but it was just winding up as we arrived. Certainly hot enough for them today.
Purchases were made again including a Sambuca Nigra Black Lace - a dark leaved Elder - for some of that empty space by the fence I mentioned in yesterday’s blip. They then had to be carried home - walking us one way of stopping you buying too much
Over 17000 steps done so I think that’s enough for the first really hot summers day.
