Nicky and her Nikon

Snow and rain

I went to bed last night still feeling awful with a temperature, nausea and a headache, but thankfully I had a great night's sleep and woke up feeling fine - not sure what it was, a 24hr bug, or a reaction to eating something, but at least it did not last long.

As forecast we had snow overnight on the peaks, (see first extra) and this morning it was much cooler with very low clouds hanging over the village. I was due to meet up with Mareike, we were going to have a walk and lunch, but unfortunately she had to cancel as her horse was very poorly again.

Although the clouds were very low it was not raining so Gavin and I went for a walk, we did a walk that was at tree level height above the village and it was raining and damp when we were high enough to be in the low clouds, but as soon as we descended it was dry. There are always picturesque barns on this walk, as per my image here. We passed a few cows which is always a bit scary as some can be rather aggressive towards a dog, so we always take a wide detour if we come across a herd. I was surprised to see how skinny some of the cows were (see extra), not sure why as they have plenty of food.

After lunch we decided to play 9 holes of golf. We only teed off after 4pm as there was a tournament on today and we could not get an earlier booking. The second time playing this course was marginally easier for me as at least I knew the layout of the course, but some of the holes are quite ridiculously tricky - you tee off with a drop of about 50m on to the fairway, and then there is another rise of over 50m to the green, which you cannot even see until you are right near it. The greens often have slopes or are double tiered so if you do happen to get your ball up the hill and land on it, it can roll back down again, as happened to me a few times today ! It rained while we were playing, but I still enjoyed it very much.

Tomorrow the sunshine is meant to return so we are planning a longer hike.
