Day at a Time

A happy hop to Hoy

This morning we all (minus my sister and BiL who set off very early for a day on Sanday) boarded the foot ferry from Stromness to the north end of Hoy. I've been to Hoy before but it was many years ago.  This was the perfect trip for adults and children alike:
Half an hour on the ferry
A short walk on Hoy to a sandy beach
A nearby cafe with scones and flapjacks, tea and coffee.
A good play area with an exciting slide
Half an hour on the return ferry.

Some beautiful birds - the main is a tirrick (Arctic tern) and the extra a pipit of some kind. There were cormorants and gannets diving too. Lovely wildflowers and of course the brooding Hoy Hills.

Back at base camp in Stromness and everyone is chilling. The eight year old is devising a game of bingo (the prize is to be in the middle of a family group hug) and the four year old cousins are blowing giant bubbles in tne garden. Some people are talking of going for a run. Not me, needless to say. It's my turn to cook tonight and I need to sort myself out. We're doing very well for food.

Hope to see the full supermoon tonight - the weather is beautiful just now and the sky could well stay clear.
