Totnes Castle

I almost talked myself out of a run this morning, but in the end I did run.  My route was just over four miles.  TT also ran – but not the same route as me.

We packed a picnic and headed to Totnes today.  Somewhere we have never been, but somewhere our friends were talking about over lunch on Wednesday.  Once we got there, parking was a real struggle, but we eventually found somewhere.  We were near the River Dart, so we walked down river a little bit and found a spot for our picnic.  Once we were fed and watered, we wandered along the river to the town centre and just continued to wander – following what appeared to be the main street – which is a long main street, lined with mainly independent shops, which makes its way uphill to the castle.  We stopped at a lovely bookshop, where I made a purchase, but otherwise we wandered with the crowd.

As we got to the top of the hill, there was a rain shower and the weather closed in for a bit, just as we visited Totnes Castle.  There were still good views over the town, and the rain did go off and the views opened up again.  We continued on our way, and followed the garden trail, which took us to three gardens and to the Leechwell, by which time the weather had greatly improved and the sun was shining.  We continued back to the main street, and then retraced our steps back to the river.  We stopped off for tea and cakes on our way back to the catr as we were all flagging a little and in need of sustenance.

Once we got back home, TT cooked a curry for tea and then guess what, there was more Mapp and Lucia!

A view back to the castle from the High Street.
