A view from Jeanneb

And again ..

I have often said that my husband’s ‘thing’ is Fuchsias and so that’s what he enters in the village Horticultural show.

He doesn’t prepare them specially but just looks to see what he has and into which category they will fit when the time comes.
He was lucky to have some as many were lost last winter with the decision not to heat the greenhouse.

The small fuchsia to the right was one grown in up to a 6 inch pot as grown. With only one flower open this morning he wasn’t going to bother entering but I said to do it anyway. It was the only one so he got a first! The other with a profuse amount of flowers was entered into the Best Kitchen Garden Flower category and got a first and a trophy!! He was most surprised as when he took it up this morning he said there looked to be stiff competition.

Several people we passed on our way up to collect them later in the afternoon told him he’d got a first but to get two was most unexpected. He’s happy, last year he got a first and a second and a trophy. My only complaint is it’s a much bigger trophy than last year and I don’t know where to put it!

There  was also rumble of thunder as we walked up the village. An extremely hot and humid day with thunder forecast but they got away with it for most of the afternoon. It started to rain as we got into the tent but it wasn’t heavy as we waited outside for the cup presentation.

We left before the produce auction and got home without getting too wet but there was a very heavy shower soon after.
A shame for the clearers up and especially for our friend H doing the auction!

Another great annual village event accompanied by BD1Brass Band seen in the top picture.
