Sweet Peas This Year and Next

Their stems are getting shorter
and the vases smaller, too.
Our sweet pea season's very nearly done.
But as long as they keep blooming
then I'll snip those final few
and breathe the scent of each and every one.

Now as seed-heads ripen daily,
with a few already burst,
twisting as they turn from green to fawn,
I shall rescue those that follow,
which will be among the first
to be saved and sown, not pinged across the lawn.

Ran my photo through a 'cut out' art filter on Photoshop for Ingeborg's Abstract Thursday challenge 'close up'. This little vase is just about 2½ inches high - about the same as the length of the seed pods alongside.

The sun never broke through today - though it tried hard (see Extra) - and there was damping in the air all day with slightly heavier drizzle at times. Didn't stop me doing a little gardening this afternoon. Also finished reading my book: a nice balanced day.
