Grumpy Old Man

Two of a kind

The sun was shining from a blue sky today, so after visiting the Pier for fresh fish and choosing a few books at the library we drove northwards out of town, planning to have a walk along the beach at Tralee, a favourite place. However, as we approached Benderloch a few raindrops hit the windscreen, about five and a half, in fact (!), so as it's a fair walk from the car park down to the beach and we weren't sure what was going to happen, we turned around and parked in a layby and had a walk on the local beach instead. This is my Blip today.

The beach is approached along the old railway track, closed in 1966 and this section is now a cycle track. The beach is mostly shingly, with some sand, and as always, we walked along hoping to find some oddity or other, but saw nothing special. Then I caught sight of a small piece of what appeared to be hand-decorated pottery, part of an old plate I think. We wondered what it was and how it got there - nobody now will never know. Then 25 yards further along I spotted another piece of pottery and to my amazement it appeared to be another part of the same plate. The two pieces are my extra today. What is the chance of two pieces from the same article being found after probably years of ebbing and flowing tides? We found nothing else man-made on our walk.

We stopped for lunch at Poppies Garden Centre where we spent the time gazing out over the sun-soaked boats in Dunstaffnage marina, then back home we had a visit from a neighbour and later sat out in the sun on our garden seat with Susie the cat between us. Dark clouds coming over now, but a good day after the windy weather we've had.
